“I’ve known Jessica Miles for more than 4 years now. She served as the Trends Publisher for two and a half years during my tenure at Cell Press. As a Senior Publisher, managing 16 editors with responsibilities spanning diverse thematic areas, Jessica was steadfast in bringing out the very best in all of us. She was instrumental in forging new partnerships with sister journals, improving workflows and initiating new cross journal projects that transformed the Trends portfolio. Staying at the helm of the Trends portfolio all through the pandemic, Jessica guided the team through turbulent times, while constantly finding ways to innovate and strengthen inter journal collaboration. Despite not being my direct line manager, Jessica always encouraged me to take on additional responsibilities that would in turn further my career progression. She encouraged and supported me to take on the gigantic task of leading the COVID remembrance project, which united all 16 journals for a common purpose, a historic feat on its own. In fact, her mentorship continued beyond my tenure at Cell Press and she continues to be my sounding board. Her empathetic leadership, efficiency and desire to innovate continue to be a source of inspiration for me. I believe she will be an amazing colleague and leader for any organization she ends up working for.”

Head of Business Partnerships, Oak AI

“I had the pleasure of managing Jessica at Cell Press and Elsevier, where she oversaw the global Cell Symposia conferences series. This challenging role required a remarkable combination of scientific expertise, product thinking, business strategy, long-range planning, financial acumen, deft diplomacy, great communication, and creative problem-solving as well as troubleshooting abilities. Jessica delivered all of the above and more. She got up to speed very quickly, learned the business dynamics, and built the internal and external relationships needed to successfully deliver a conference series that required a planning lifecycle of 16-24 months for each event. She led a successful product line that generated a large portion of our portfolio's revenue.

I was impressed with Jessica's ability stretch herself and tackle any challenge head-on -- for example, when she next moved into a leadership role heading a large team. Jessica is a smart, strategic leader; she is data-driven, customer-focused, and results-oriented. It was a true pleasure to work with Jessica."
